Kendall Square has been a bit of an industrial no mans land for a long time.  Some large residential developments such as Third Square, which was originally meant to be condos but had to rent due to a bad condo market, Archstone Kendall and the Watermark have moved into the area over the last few years bringing a few restaurants along with them but the area still lacks things like a decent grocery store.  MIT has recently submitted a plan to renovate 12 buildings in Kendall Square along with improving common spaces in the area.  The price tag for the project is 700 Million Dollars.  This is a logical next step to match other large scale projects such as the long stalled North Point project or the Fan Pier project.  Kendall Square is already a biotech and pharmaceutical juggernaught.  This project would help invigorate Kendall Square and maintain Boston’s position as one of the top biotech cities in the world.  You can read the full article here
