Check out my first video which explores the idea of buying a condo for college students rather than renting.
Brownstone: a brownstone will typically be over 100 years old, a maximum of 5 stories and will be full of Boston charm. Along with the charm typically comes drafty windows, some manner of infestation, slanted floors, and finishes from the early 80’s. Narrow hallways, pipes noisy enough to convince you that your apartment is haunted and steam heat that has 2 settings: tropical and off….oh, and plenty of flights of stairs to walk up.
Now a word on agents. You do not have to work with an agent. You can do this search yourself but I would not recommend it. When I came to Boston I was dead set on finding an apartment without anyones help. I was unfamiliar with the city and looked at roughly 40 apartments over the course of 6 weeks before I found something that worked for me. It was a miserable process to say the least.
Okay, so you are looking to rent an apartment. I have put together some guidelines that will make your search go smoothly and quickly. These are all things I have learned as a Real Estate agent in Boston over the last few years.
